Alivio Dental welcomes children and adults covered by Illinois Medicaid, including All Kids, at both our Downers Grove and Aurora offices. If you or your child has Medicaid coverage, here is what you should know before your visit: what is typically covered, what to bring, and how to make your first appointment go smoothly.

Who we see

  • Children covered by All Kids or Illinois Medicaid
  • Adults covered by Illinois Medicaid
  • Members of Medicaid health plans we work with, such as Molina (Avesis), CountyCare, and Meridian, as well as DentaQuest

Plans and plan names change from time to time. If you do not see your plan on our insurance page, please call either office and we will check for you.

What does Illinois Medicaid dental coverage include?

Illinois Medicaid’s dental benefit covers both children and adults. In general it includes:

  • Checkups and exams: for children, typically every six months; for adults, typically once every 12 months
  • Cleanings and X-rays
  • Fluoride treatments and dental sealants (age requirements apply)
  • Treatment such as fillings, root canals, crowns, and extractions when medically necessary
  • Emergency dental care
  • Braces for children who meet the program’s medical and age requirements

Exact benefits, frequency limits, and approval rules depend on your age and your plan, and some treatments need approval before they can be done. Our team checks your eligibility before treatment and can explain what your plan covers.

What to bring to your appointment

  • Your Medicaid or health plan card with your member ID number. All patients need to provide a valid ID number from their insurance or Medicaid plan before treatment can begin, so we can confirm eligibility and file claims for you.
  • A photo ID for adults.
  • A list of medications you or your child take.
  • Any recent X-rays (from the last six months) from a previous dentist, if available.
  • A parent or guardian. A parent or guardian must come with every patient under 18.

To save time, please fill out the New Patient Packet on our online forms page before you arrive.

Bringing your child for the first time

Regular checkups help catch cavities while they are small and easy to treat. At a child’s visit we gently examine the teeth and gums, may take X-rays to check for decay and the progress of the permanent teeth, clean the teeth, and may apply fluoride. Just as important, we show parents how to care for their child’s teeth at home. Read more on our child dentistry page, including tips for preparing your child for the visit.

Need a dental exam form for school? You can request one through our forms page.

Adults: don’t skip your yearly visit

Many adults with Medicaid don’t realize they have dental coverage. A yearly exam and cleaning can catch gum disease, cavities, and cracked teeth before they turn into pain or tooth loss. If you have been putting off care, now is a good time to come in.
